麻豆天美传媒

This year, music teachers at McRoberts had an inquiry:听

How can we foster inter-school connections and听collaborations between music teachers and students听from the various schools in 麻豆天美传媒?听 How may听cross-school connection and collaboration impact the听learning and growth of music students in 麻豆天美传媒鈥檚听schools?

Because they noticed that their students;听

  • They听are keen听to play new and more challenging music.鈥
  • They are eager to learn about Jazz and to develop their听knowledge of jazz harmony and scales/modes to听enable them to improvise over the chord progressions听they are faced with in their repertoire.听鈥
  • They are confident and willing to take risks.鈥
  • They are thankful to have an opportunity to play music听together with like-minded musicians.鈥
  • They are busy: after-school/off-timetable classes,听lessons, sports, jobs鈥

How did the inquiry make a difference? How would you describe your experience of rehearsing and playing with听music teachers and other student musicians from around the 麻豆天美传媒听School District?鈥

  • 鈥淧laying with other musicians motivates me to improve my own听playing. Watching experienced musicians play and solo is inspiring听and invigorating for an aspiring student like myself.鈥澨(A.S. McRoberts student).鈥
  • 鈥淭he only experience I have (playing in a band like this) is听Elementary Honour Band. At the time band was too easy and听quite boring. It was听really nice听to have an enriched challenge.鈥澨(A.C. McMath student)

Next steps for this project:

  • Keep the band going next year and beyond in听order to continue fostering relationships among听keen young musicians in SD 38s secondary听schools 鈥 the beat goes on!鈥
  • Continue learning about recording techniques so听we can produce and share quality recordings by听this band.鈥
  • We hope to connect members of the band with听members of the Vancouver Jazz scene to inspire听them to keep pursuing their musical potential.听
