The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) program provides settlement support and services for immigrants, refugees and newcomers, with a focus on the Â鶹ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ school system.
After registering with our district, a settlement worker will contact newcomer families to help the student(s) and family adjust to school(s) and their new Â鶹ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ community.Ìý
Our team helps newcomer families to build connections and provide support and guidance to independently access services and resources within Â鶹ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ schools.
Our team of settlement workers provide services in a variety of ways:
- One-to-one and family orientations
- Online and in-person information workshops
- Referrals and connections to community resources
- Community connection activitiesÌýand experiences
Settlement services are provided in the following languages: Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, French, Punjabi, Portuguese, Japanese, Tagalog, Spanish and Greek.
